Weekly Photo Challenge: Pattern

by evilnymphstuff

When I first saw this week’s theme, pattern, it reminded me of my art classes at school a few years back. We had to draw a specific pattern all over an A3 size paper like the wrapping paper style… I didn’t really like it at that time.

Anyway, here’s my take for the challenge, a pattern that appeals much to me:

Art Is Changing My Life

by evilnymphstuff

Some of you might remember that when I started this blog, I said that I had a new hobby every year.

Only writing remains constant throughout my life’s journey, since it’s more than a hobby, it’s a passion, well, it hasn’t always been constant but it always came back – I always came back to it.

French fanfiction in 2008, vidding in 2010, makeup and blogging in 2011, novelist-huge-breakthrough-plans in 2012… For some I… well I didn’t give up but I kind of was out of time to do all so I had to eliminate, while for others, like blogging especially, remained and will remain in my life I believe.

And in 2013…

Art.

Of course, everything I stated above is art, but what I mean is that this year I’m embracing the very basic stereotype form of art, which is the visual one, painting and drawing. The one art I drowned in when I could not even read and write, which made me use up all the paint pots and try out all the cheap painting brushes we had in our family’s shop, and which made me wonder about beautiful sunsets painted on canvas…

Weekly Photo Challenge: A Day In The Life Of An Artist!

by evilnymphstuff

I know I usually do weekly photo challenges on Wednesdays, but a lot happened this weekend, and I’ve also being very active on Instagram. And this week’s photo challenge is ‘A Day in My Life‘!

I’m mainly going to concentrate on how I spent my Sunday, although you still deserve some explanations over Saturday and Monday:

On Saturday, we, Mauritians, have been victims of a never-seen-and-witnessed torrential rain situation. Unexpected floods, unpredicted (or compelled to silence) by the media, despite all the technologies we possess, which caused deaths and panic… My mother and I were far from our home, in a shopping mall, and we were so taken aback when we went out and saw that water was all over the pavements and roads… it came up to our ankles!

And I had to buy art supplies.

Anyway, I’m still alive! If you want to know more about this, my best friend just wrote a blog post about it here: Mauritius These Days…

So when I woke up on Sunday, it didn’t feel like Easter. Nevertheless, I ate chocolate bunnies! :) Thus, here’s the first photo for the Daily post challenge:

5 Reasons Why I Prefer Evil Characters

by evilnymphstuff

therese desqueyroux françois mauriacLes « coeurs sur la main » n’ont pas d’histoire ; mais je connais celle des coeurs enfouis et tout mêlés à un corps de boue.

This French quote from François Mauriac very much describes my main motivation for siding with evil characters in my stories. I can’t really translate it though, because in English it won’t have that same impact it had on me, you see… The French language has a particular (charming and poetic) style that I just can’t reproduce in English. But basically, Mauriac tells us that he prefers to write on those who are ‘evil’ and unconventional instead of those who are good and virtuous.

I can totally understand why. (And I totally understand Mauriac thus that’s why I’m in love with his book, Thérèse Desqueyroux).

In The Mind Of An Introvert

by evilnymphstuff

Today, we live in a world of extroverts. We, introverts, feel marginalised.

At least, I do.

Where To Find Inspiration?

by evilnymphstuff

With the final end of year exams approaching like a hare in a race, I feel more and more overwhelmed and at times it’s hard for me to find ideas for new posts, but thankfully, I have my ways.

Any type of artists, whether be a writer, a painter, a photographer or even a blogger, has had to face this handicap at one point in their path: block. Writer’s block, painter’s block… The lack of inspiration.

I’ve been talking about this in some previous posts, but they were especially directed to NaNoWriMo participants or writers only, if I remember well, thus I talked about taking a break from the story, setting goals everyday, and participating in challenges like NaNoWriMo to stimulate the desire for writing.

Today I’m going to focus on art in general and I’ll show you my tips to find inspiration again.
