The Most Dangerous Thing About Love

by evilnymphstuff

Here’s this week’s Picture it & Write! I’m sorry I’m late!

locker schoolMaybe I was too late.

Maybe I had noticed it too late.

The most dangerous thing about love was that it could deprive you of all your senses, all except the one deep inside of you: that of your heart. When trapped within its unyielding grasp, it would hug you so hard that you would feel the loud drumming of that central organ of yours; it would suffocate you and hypnotize you…

In A Parallel World…

by evilnymphstuff

Hi everyone! :) Here’s this week’s Picture It & Write:

In a parallel world,

Where animals would talk,

Where we would live by night and sleep by day,

And girls and boys would be equal in any way.

Am I A Workaholic?

by evilnymphstuff

workaholicFrom Wikipedia, “A workaholic is a person who is addicted to work. The term generally implies that the person enjoys their work; it can also imply that they simply feel compelled to do it.”

Okay… Personally, I don’t like factual definitions, thus let’s continue in my own way:

I’ve never really thought about it in the past, but I might be a workaholic. How?

The thing is I don’t only enjoy working (here, I don’t consider work as the thing you do to earn a living since I’m still a teen, but I’m talking about everything that demands physical or mental effort) or feel compelled to work (that would be school work) but I also search for work. What I mean is that I like to keep myself busy. I’d hate to remain idle one moment. That’s why I’ve got so many hobbies.

My 2013 Goals!

by evilnymphstuff

I am not the type of person who every year make a list of resolutions. But there are things that I keep in mind, things that I wish for, things that I want to happen during the year.

These are my goals of the year.

Why I Believe That ‘Revision = Depression’.

by evilnymphstuff

It’s that time of the year again when I, as a high school student, have to give my best to the final exams of the year, to apply all that I have learnt in one year and apply them well so as to be able to pass on to the next new school year. Yep, here in Mauritius we follow the British education system, mainly the Cambridge syllabus.

And next year will be my last year in secondary school, I will be sitting for the A-level CIE (Cambridge International Examinations), which will determine my future! I mean, the end results of those six years of secondary school  will lie in these exams and will enable me to jump to a new educational level, that is the tertiary/university level.

That is, if I get good grades.

It's plain wrong. Oh..and unfair too! (Bullying at school)

This week was all wrong. It broke and redefined all the conceptions I had of my school but unfortunately the conclusions were scary and revolting. Our school is considered an 'elite' high school which only brilliant girls attend but sadly intelligence doesn't always rhyme with good conduct or nice manners...

Bullying is the act of intimidating a weaker person. Bullying is being noisily domineering.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Indulge

by evilnymphstuff

Sorry for I’m a bit late in this week’s photo challenge. Anyway these days, I’ve mainly been indulged in…

sociology book

Yes, in the thickest of all school books I’ve ever had to study! It’s nicknamed the ‘dictionary’ of sociology. I’m fortunate that the subject is interesting… ^^

Getting serious about my studies hehe.

The Hardest Thing For A Student…

by evilnymphstuff

The hardest thing for a student is to balance his/her studies and his/her extracurricular activities: the two main big projects of his/her life which will greatly contribute to his/her future as a citizen.

Stop Procrastination!

by evilnymphstuff

After two months of summer vacation, who would be ready to jump on copybooks and go to school? Not I. It’s hard to suddenly change the routine. School looks so boring compared to whatever we did during the holidays. We feel lazy. We don’t want to face reality: that we have to work.

Thursday was the very first day of 2012′s school year. As here we follow the British education system, I’m now thus in Lower 6 (which makes me feel more mature by the way! lol). As usual I yawned after waking up because I’m struggling to aceept the fact that I have to be up early – same at night I have to sleep early – and wearing a green tunic everyday.

An Evil Nymph Goes Back to School

by evilnymphstuff

The title sounds so childish, don’t you think so? Anyway.

My 6th year at secondary school will start on Thursday! Excited? Thrilled? uh… well I guess I got used to it. So bye bye holidays and welcome uniforms and homework… My schedule will be tighter too. :P

But to spice up those long days at school and tuition, I crafted a pencil case (which I always do since I learnt how to make one… thanks to school lol) like this one:

Just Like in the Movies…

by evilnymphstuff

After a whole week of celebrations – wedding anniversary, birthday, christening (yes and I’m the lucky godmother!! :D ), etc… it’s finally time for me to rest…

Um wait, what?

Rest? haha still dreaming.

Yesterday I went to my first Alliance Française course for the year – it’s a course I take every year on French and especially in Literature. At the year end which is in July in this system, I have to take part in exams of course.

But this year is different because I’m shifting. I’m going a class higher, and because in my village they don’t have teachers available at that higher stage, I have to move out to town. So from now on, every Monday and possibly Tuesday, I have to travel to town to attend the classes. It’ll be tiring especially when school will start again, but well I have no other choice.

Anyway, what I wanted to tell you today is that yesterday, my first course was… um interesting.

And just like in the movies…

I felt so lonely.

An Ordinary Student Life

by evilnymphstuff

Hey guys! I’m so sorry I’ve been MIA often these days. So many of you are requesting blog posts from me and I thank all of you for your support :) but as you can see, I have a life too outside of blogging: I’ll be taking part in Cambridge International O-Level Exams in October and I have to do my revision work.

So I was wondering what I could write… and well, as what’s all in my life for the moment is these exams, then why not talk about it? I hope it doesn’t sound boring, but I’d like you to know more about this 16-year-old girl behind the screen and get a glimpse of her life out there :)

Today, Friday 16 Sept, I got my official exams timetable. Ahh!! These papers just scare everyone! :P

Cambridge O-levels examinations papers

My exams will cover a whole month, i.e I will start on the 10 Oct (with French Literature!) and end on the 15 Nov (with Economics paper 1!). Of course, I won’t have exams everyday lol!

Now I have to do my revision work, i.e I have to recapitulate whatever I learnt during the 5 years I was at secondary school… (don’t worry… we mostly revised what we did these last 2 years :P ) and I have to practice a lot!

We usually do 8 subjects and they’ll extract the final results from 6 of these 8 subjects. Some people do 7 only and others do 9 or 10… (omg! they’re crazy!) In my school we were compelled to do 8 and I guess it’s the best choice. :)

There were 4 compulsory subjects: French, English Language, Maths, and Additional Maths.

I had to choose 4 others and these 4 should match each other. I chose, first of all for the 1st two places, French Literature and Literature in English. The two vacant places had to be filled either with the sciences or accounting sides… and I chose Accounting because I thought it was more scoring (in fact it’s not, as every subject has the same level of difficulty). Therefore I filled the 2 places with Economics and Principles of Accounts.

Next year we have to choose 3 main subjects and 2 subsidiary ones… General paper (GP) is a compulsory subsidiary subject. I chose this combination:

The 3 mains: French (Literature included), Literature in English and Maths.

The subs: GP and Sociology

I think it’s best I briefly tell you about how I’ll do my revision and maybe this can help you too to organise yours one day :)

How I organise my Revision Work:

First, let’s see:

I do 8 subjects and there are 7 days in a week.

English and French are subjects that you just can’t revise… you know it’s just about language, your vocabulary… no theories, no formulas or quotes to learn by heart. In addition, I’m fluent in both (well in oral english uh not really…xD)

Therefore, I’m left with 6 subjects and 7 days! Yeah! I’ll have a rest day!

I’ve planned it like that:

Monday = Add. Maths

Tuesday = French Literature

Wednesday = Maths

Thursday = Economics

Friday = Principles of Accounts

Saturday = Literature in English

Sunday = random work/free time!

It all depends on you and what you feel is best for you when you have to prepare yourself for an exams. Some I guess would just followe their instincts and randomly choose a subject to revise everyday… or when they feel like it. But I’m  not like that. I need organisation in my studies :)

I don’t know if you’ve read or understood all of this but anyway thanks for passing by and feel free to leave a comment.

IF you have anything you want me to write on you are free to tell me in the comment box below :D

Yours Blogging,

An Evil Nymph.

Preparing For An Examination

by evilnymphstuff

This extract about ‘preparing for an exam’ comes from my economics book but can be applied to any subject and exam you’re taking. Credits goes to Susan Grant, the author of my book for Economics at O-level.

Revision

Revision is a continuous process. After every lesson, check your work and if necessary, add extra notes. As the examination approaches, you will need to do intensive revision. Try to engage in active revision. This involves, not just reading notes, but also using the information. There are a number of ways through which this can be done. These include testing other members of the class and getting them to test you, drawing spider diagrams and producing tables and revision cards.
