It’s been a while since I’ve been reading Nora Roberts and recently I’ve borrowed one of her books: Blood Brothers; and I’ve thought about making a sort of praise and critic Nora Roberts post. Therefore…
What I like about her:
She knows how to capture her readers – whether they be horror books fan or romance book fans. Her writing is defined and beautiful. She has the ability to write about anything really… fortunately for me because I don’t like 100% romantic books… but at the same time she is faithful to what she has already decided: to write romance books. She knows her subject very well and does some research before writing. Very easy to read and description doesn’t make one sleep… 🙂
What I don’t like about her:
Her romantic stories are too… well too dreamy, “soulmates”-like, unrealistic… and when I read her books it hurts because I know it just can’t be like that in real life. She always follow the same pattern: if she writes a trilogy there are 6 main characters: 3 men and 3 women – and in each book Nora tells the story of each couple. After some time you get bored with her novels because you already know this pattern – therefore no unexpected turnover of the romantic story, no cheating 😉 then you better prefer and concentrate on the background story i.e. the horror included one or mystery included one… 🙂
Thus her single books are better as the romantic story in them are more profounded and better told… but not for me because I don’t like romance ^^ compared to the trilogies which are full of different themes!
lol you like suspense and real mystery over romance huh 🙂
yeah lol most of my friends too 🙂
