This post is written for this week’s Picture It & Write hosted by Ermilia.
Caleb doesn’t and will never love me.
I stopped on my tracks and waited for the road to be clear of any vehicles. Only a few more steps before I reached my dear apartment after a long day’s work at the college establishment. Shadow was surely waiting for me impatient; she rarely slept these last few days since we went on our trip which covered most of the Europe continent.
Did you see how she moved her hips? And how he smiled at her?
After some time, the road looked safe enough. I took a step forward but had to walk backwards as an unexpected white van flashed past me. Then the way was clear again. At least this was what I thought. After a few steps forward, I decided to get back onto the pavement as a bus was coming my way. But its speed was slow enough for me to keep on walking, wasn’t it?
You’re too shy.
Why was crossing the road always a problem to be solved for me?
You’ve made friends, but you shouldn’t stop here! This girl made friends with him too and she’s getting quicker than you…
I was left undecided, on the side of the road, waiting for the bus to pass.
He’ll always see you as the awkward little girl who remains in the shadows…
What if I took the initiative to be bold and jog across the asphalt before the bus could hit me? Would I even be able to make it? I had to try it. I felt a surge of adrenaline flowing through my veins as I began to walk.
…while this girl is giving him all the sunshine he needs.
And then, everything abandoned me.
He. Will. Never. Be. Yours.
I stood paralysed in the middle of the road. The bus didn’t stop. I closed my eyes.
But he likes you! And it’s not by killing yourself that you’ll win his heart.
I suddenly heard Shadow meowing. The burden of reality fell hard on me. I burst open my eyes and before the fatal hit could occur, I reached the other side of the road and ran home.
The fight has just begun. Don’t leave the battlefield yet.
Shadow curled itself around my ankle and purred as I caressed its fluffy black head.
You have much more in reserve than you can actually imagine…
I smiled. I knew that I was right.

This is the sequel to a progressive story called ‘Unpredicted’ and whose previous chapters were:
2. An Escape Attempt (keep scrolling for this one, it’s at the very end of the post!)
Enjoy!
An Evil Nymph.
🙂 Will she see that the battlefield is in her own mind? I don’t think Clare really likes him anyway. He makes her feel like she doesn’t have control.
Yes she knows it’s all in her mind but as you said she doesn’t have any control. It frustrates her but at the same time… well it’s complicated. She likes him… though she doesn’t want too. And I simply follow the picture and try to adapt it to her situation 🙂 We’ll see what next week’s picture will be!
I liked the progression of her thoughts and how it communicated in her actions. Phew, I’m glad she made it to the other side. For a moment there I thought it was the end. I’m familiar with your dark (awesome) stories full of twists. I can’t wait to see what she decides to do next. In my opinion, leave Caleb and find someone else who sees her full potential! 😛 Thanks for contributing to Picture it & write again, M.D. 🙂
