I think it’s time I stop apologising for not writing on this blog for a long period of time; it has almost become like a regular blogging pattern by itself.
Ever since I left Mauritius in 2014 to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Malaysia I’ve been finding less and less time for blogging on this blog. But I’ve been writing more. Writing assignments and essays, then it slowly evolved to writing online articles and more assignments for companies who paid me.
I remember that getting paid for my writing was a huge achievement for me. I had this feeling of ‘I made it’. I had always wanted to prove to the world that I was meant to be a writer (although I did mean fiction writer…). But then, it wasn’t so special anymore. Writing is now just a job.
And I developed more hobbies. Like performing arts. Dancing. Fitness.
Does social media count?
Well, fast forward to 2017. In December 2016 I set myself 3 goals to achieve:
- To be more physically active.
- To focus more on writing fiction.
- To remind me that my main goal in life is to become independent.
I’d say that I succeeded in the first goal 100%! I keep working out to this day and I did take dance classes in 2017.
The second one was not accomplished, although I must say I did write a lot of fiction for my fiction writing class at university in the first half of the year.
And well, the third one is a continuous goal, more of a simple reminder, whenever I feel unmotivated. Unfortunately, I have not become more independent as I failed to secure a job in Malaysia. Therefore I had to go back to Mauritius and live under my parents’ house. But the good news is that I am definitely saving more of my paycheck (and I also have a higher paycheck now that I’m full-time), so in a way, I am still paving the way to full independence! Even when it seems like I have ‘regressed’.
So what’s next?
In terms of this blog, I am aiming for one post per month, because my work is all about writing and social media, so the last thing I want to do when I get home is to do the same thing (I’m sorry, I’m getting old).
In terms of my life… well, I want 2018 to be a calm, stable year. I want it to be a year of ‘rest’. No adventures planned. Only consistent hardwork in what I do and family/friends time (yes, it doesn’t mean there’s no fun).
My only goal for 2018 is to save up for my future plans. It’s also to ‘settle down’ for now. To find my place in this ‘new’ country (I’m not used to my own country at all!).
Just wanna lay low for now. 🙂
What are your plans for 2018? Let me know in the comments!
