I’M TRANSFERRING!

Hi guys,

This is a short update on my blogging situation. As you may have known, I have a second blog, specialised in articles on the lifestyle of international students abroad. However, if you’ve been following this blog here for a while, you may know that I am barely able to write on a regular basis ever since I started my first full-time job.

It’s been a hard decision to make but I’ve chosen to merge An Evil Nymph’s Blog and my student blog so that I can focus on only one blog. And the blog I’ve chosen to keep updating is my second blog, dkwaye.com. I’ve chosen my latest blog for obvious reasons: I’m paying for the domain and web hosting services.

Thus, as from now on, my future blog posts will be published on the other blog. If you do want to keep up with my writing, do not hesitate to subscribe to it using this link.

You can also follow its Facebook page to stay updated about new blog posts!

It’s not easy to part with this blog. After all, it’s been 6 years! Nevertheless, I am not shutting it down, so who knows, I may come back for a blog post or two. 🙂 An Evil Nymph’s Blog is yet to die.

I’m simply shifting my focus.

I hope you’ll join me on my next blogging adventure!

An Evil Nymph.

A WordPress.com Blog VS Self-Hosting Website: My Experience

A few posts back, I was writing about how I was going to create my official writer’s website as I’m starting my after-undergrad life as a freelance writer, sort of.

Since then (although it was only a few weeks/days ago), things have changed.

Well, I did launch a website.

But it’s not exactly a freelance writing website. After getting insightful feedback from the surveys I had posted, I realised that people were currently more interested in a Students’ Survival Guide than a freelance writing blog. And looking at my experience, I had way more valuable stories to share in the ‘student’ category. After all, I had only just started freelancing, while I had been a University student for 3 years!

After days of thinking and brainstorming, I finally made the leap and bought my very first domain: dkwaye.com

Santa Claus Of The Blogosphere!

First, I’d like to say Happy International Women’s Day – belated, I know – to all women who are standing up in their life for their rights right in the 21st century. 🙂

And then, I bet you are wondering what’s that title, well, I won’t beat about the bush, so An Evil Nymph’s Blog has been receiving blog awards since I last posted about them at the end of January. Thus since the beginning of February, awards have accumulated in my bookmark, constantly urging me everyday to put them out in a post, and today… is finally the day!

it's finally the day

Advice on Guest Posting

If you have been following me for a while you should have noticed that guest posts are becoming more and more regular in my blogging schedule.

What is guest posting?

You know, those posts which aren’t written by me, but by someone else – and at the end of the post I place a short bio to credit them? This is a guest post.

You own a blog, and you write most of the articles, then one day, a mail comes in telling you that she/he wants to write for you. Well that’s fine. Less work for me and more exposure for the person, which is then called a guest poster. (I guess)

Okay fine, it’s called a guest blogger.

This Year is a Pool of Awards…

Since the beginning of the year my bookmarks bar on Google Chrome was filled with posts which nominated me for blog awards. That;s why I usually share/pass on the love of multiple awards to other bloggers. And it’s not over yet.

I firstly thank The Narcissist’s Blog for the Versatile Blogger award and the Kreativ Blogger award 🙂

Except from the rules of thanking the person who gave these to you and listing 10 bloggers to pass on those goodies (which we’ll come to soon don’t worry), there’s the fun part, which is to list…

Merry Christmas + Awards Giveaway

Christmas is finally here 🙂

And because this is an appropriate time for giving, I would like to share two blog awards with you! In fact I have been receiving the Versatile blogger award many times and most were given by Andy from dragoneystory.wordpress.com and the One Lovely Blog award from Ermilia (ermiliablog.wordpress.com) which I didn’t find time to pass on.

So I’m going to give both to 10 bloggers out there, excluding those who gave them to me. This will be my special christmas gift. The lucky winners are (in no particular order):

Tip: “how I can get my blog more popular?”

This was asked by one of my blogger friends – yeps contacting me for advice although I’m still a beginner lol! Her name is Autumn and click here to check out her great blog! 🙂

I did a short reply – because we were ‘chatting’ – sort of – by mail 🙂

Here’s what I answered:

Hi what did work for me is responding to comments – in any other way because google won’t allow replying 🙂 – and commenting a lot on other blogs! Give other people courage to continue writing 🙂 follow everyone of them because that doesn’t cost you a thing and because most of them deserve it and will encourage them 🙂

Hope this helps! ^^

A short tip for all of you too guys because that’s how I’m doing right now and it works great! (I have to do that on WordPress too lol but I just don’t have much time for 2 blogs 🙂 and anyway business blog comes first in the goal of getting famous!)

When I’ll get new techniques I’ll tell you ASAP!

Blogging Yours,

An Evil Nymph.

Abracadabra! It’s gone by itself!

Indeed I guess this should be in my list of WordPress complications!

One day I was posting something… as usual… and when after some googling – my favourite activity lol! – I decided to check my post in its final state… WordPress said that it got ERROR 404!!! And as internet nerds you all know what this means!! (it means: my post cannot be found!)

For an instant I thought it was like the other day when my post got suddenly blank after having written it for 45 mins! But it was not this kind of complication. It was fortunately less serious.

What really happened: When WordPress told me “Congrats! This is your # post! ****! This post has # words.”, in fact he was LYING! It had been too lazy to publish my post. Therefore my post just stayed where it has always been: in the drafts! So I just reclick the PUBLISH button and this time I checked immediately whether it’s been GENUINELY posted. Ouf! It was! yay!

Now I click on “View Post” each time I publish a post. In case my readers got a mail about a post that has never been.

I guess most of you did experience this… just that sometimes you don’t bother check your posts and you think they’re being read when they’re NOT! That’s how people end up complaining about “Oh I’ve got so few readers!” lol no the last part was just kidding ;D

Yours WordPressing,

An Evil Nymph.

FAQs: Request for blogging advice

Today I got my first sort of website ‘FAQs’ from a blogger here on WordPress called Hassaan Rabbani. He gave me authorisation to publish what he’d asked me:

Hi,

i stumble upon your blog today and it fascinated me a lot.. keep on writing,

i am new at wordpress, can  u suggest me something..

www.hassaanrabbani.wordpress.com

Best,

Hassaan

My reply:

Hi! I think that you’re not as new as me 😀 your blog is nice!

What I can tell you is to comment a lot on other blogs and subscribe what really interests you, and you can send messages like you just did 🙂 but search for blogs that share the passion of airplanes too 🙂

I followed your blog.

Keep on writing!! At least one post every two days or even everyday! What’s more important is the number of views, your blog stats, not the number of subscribers. But please don’t write too much posts on a single day – two or three max. – or many might unsubscribe because their inbox will be filled too quickly!

He answered:

Yeah sure why not 🙂
By the way i am really really great full to you. you are such a friendly pal

God bless you and thumbs up again 🙂

keep up the good work

best

Hassaan

For those who are new to blogging, I hope this article is helpful to you!! 😀

Click on the Contact me tab if you have any more questions! I’ll try to reply ASAP though don’t get impatient if ever I take some time because I’m going back to school tomorrow.

My Biggest Blogging Mistake!

On the 25th of June 2011, I started a makeup blog, Makeup Is Art on Blogger. I wanted to share my passion for this art to the world. At first I was completely lost. But gradually, as the weeks passed my blog grew… I got familiar with Blogger and blogging itself… but then one day everything stopped: my followers were only 5 in numbers and weren’t growing for weeks, the comments went down…

What happened? Is this happening to you now?

First we have to check these 3 main things that we should do when one blogs:

1. Publish quality content

2. Participate in the blogging community i.e. comment on other similar blogs, in discussions, forums, contests…

3. Publicize blog through social media like Twitter, Facebook, Stumbleupon…

The Two Types of Blogs…

In my opinion – and blogging experience which is not much I admit – there are 2 types of blogs that can be seen throughout the net, being either Blogger, WordPress or tumblr… The two can be combined too: I’ve read some of those too. But sincerely I prefer blogs that are based on a particular type, not both or else the reader may get confused. You’ll understand my point soon you’ll see.

I just want to write this article so that I can show you why I have two blogs.

Want to know which type of blog you have?
Therefore keep reading…
