How To: Light Painting Photography!!!

For Chinese New Year, I did an interesting experiment with my Nikon Coolpix p520, that of the famous light painting! Like this:

First, I’d like to share the video tutorial that led me to discover this amazing art:

Watch it if you want to know how to do it, because here I’m mainly going to show how it’s not necessary to have all these high tech equipments to achieve the same results.

Basically, here’s what you need to do light painting:

– Torches (any colour! or many colours! I actually used my phone’s flashlight, which was downloaded on Play Store :P)
– Any camera that can be manually set to low exposure (low shutter speed)
– Something stable to put your camera on, like a tripod.
– Preferably a remote control, like in the video above, so as to again minimize shakiness. Because pressing the shutter button directly can make the camera shaky, I guess.
– And most importantly: friends!!! Yeps, and have fun! I had my sister and cousins with me 🙂

The Story Of My Very First Art Exhibition

Saturday 14th September 2013.

I was really nervous. Especially that they would not only be exhibiting my painting, but also my portfolio and the idea of so many people going through my drawings just freaked me out. I’m very sensible about my art and although I should think about that, I can’t help but wonder whether people like what they see or not.

At the CCEF, there are two categories of art courses: one is the adult one, from 14 years old and up, like the one I got myself into, and the second is for the smaller ones, the children one.

On the day of the exhibition, the works of the younger ones were hung on the wall outside in the common corridor while ours were waiting for us in the exhibition room.

The cocktail party wouldn’t begin before 16.30 but together with my parents I arrived at 16.20. I had more than enough time to admire the children’s drawings, all so filled with talent 🙂 The children’s group was already present and waiting as well, By 16.30 my friends came and soon the director of the Centre let us in the exhibition room. My friends and I waited a little, allowing the children to go first and finally went in…

(I tried the panorama option, so as to get the whole room all together)

And there they were, all of our works, paintings, on the walls, shining in artificial light.

Without wasting a single moment, parents and friends all urged us, the masters of our masterpieces to pose next to our work so that they would capture this moment with their cameras 😉 That moment was actually so funny because we were just… lost in all this jungle of people staring at our work, taking photos… taking space as well. And the room wasn’t that big. But we finally made it to get to the front:

Art Is Changing My Life

Some of you might remember that when I started this blog, I said that I had a new hobby every year.

Only writing remains constant throughout my life’s journey, since it’s more than a hobby, it’s a passion, well, it hasn’t always been constant but it always came back – I always came back to it.

French fanfiction in 2008, vidding in 2010, makeup and blogging in 2011, novelist-huge-breakthrough-plans in 2012… For some I… well I didn’t give up but I kind of was out of time to do all so I had to eliminate, while for others, like blogging especially, remained and will remain in my life I believe.

And in 2013…

Art.

Of course, everything I stated above is art, but what I mean is that this year I’m embracing the very basic stereotype form of art, which is the visual one, painting and drawing. The one art I drowned in when I could not even read and write, which made me use up all the paint pots and try out all the cheap painting brushes we had in our family’s shop, and which made me wonder about beautiful sunsets painted on canvas…

The Fashion Organizer

It’s been a long time since I haven’t been posting on fashion, you know so here we are, with a new crazy, and hopeful helpful, post of mine…

I don’t follow the actual trends or whatever although I love to watch and read about fashion. It’s fun. Makes my eyes water 😉 I usually have my own style and recently, I’ve been a little more conscious of what I wear, so I’ve started to consciously build my own fashion trends – of course, inspired by other trends. All right, I’ve been thinking about it for a while, if you’ve read my last fashion posts (see in the categories in the right sidebar!), but I’ve never really sort of organized my clothes, keep records of outfits and so on.

But now I am.

This was one of my very first outfits to become ‘digital’, I mean which I took a photo – last year.

When I don’t Write, I Draw :)

It’s heartbreaking to turn over the last page of a very dear writing/ideas copybook… and realise that you have so much to tell, to note down, yet there is no more space.

Yes, my two favourite writing copybooks (where I write snippets of stories and jot down ideas of plots, etc) got used up, and now I’ll have to buy others. 😦

Remember THIS POST?

All right I have another idea copybook but I don’t really like to write in this one. You see, most of these copybooks have been offered to me as gifts, thus I didn’t choose them… so it’s no surprise if some just don’t fit my taste 😛

Adding Colours To My Life

Most of you know that I’m very fond of makeup and I frequently watch makeup tutorials on Youtube. So today I was doing just that and I ended up in a very creative channel which is not only on makeup but also on painting! Digital painting to be more precise, with Photoshop. The girl is just so talented! I was amazed! Her name is Meowyuanw and here’s one of her wonderful arts:

Painting is such a beautiful art. I think I’m gonna start doing that 🙂

It has so many advantages like:

(i) Relieves stress and makes us relax; a good remedy (after chocolate!) when social expectations and school/work are demanding too much of you, and you get imprisoned in a pressure bubble.

(ii) It is a way to express your inner self, just like makeup… 🙂

(iii) It is a way to play with colours and enjoy yourself.

(iv) Your visual senses and creativity (right side of your brain :D) become much more precise.

(v) It makes you learn about Patience…

In addition Digital Painting is money consuming as you don’t need to buy lots of paint pots or paper. It’s all in your computer! 🙂

From this:

You can end up with:

This is my first digital painting for the time being 🙂 I use Paint but of course I’ll have to download the Photoshop later 🙂 Just wanted to try and see for myself how it’s like. Firstly it’s very tiring (Did you know: I get tired more when I work mentally than when I work physically), but it makes me want to learn art!

When I was doing Art at school I hated it because the teachers always expected specific designs from us… while what we all wanted was to freely express ourselves on this blank white paper. That’s why most people don’t like taking art courses unless they’re very good at it and really passionate about it.

For me it will only be another hobby to be added to my long list! 🙂 But whatever hobby I decided to adopt I always ended up putting all my love in it. I love myself for that 😉

But I think I’ll begin by simple pencil sketches for the time being. Then maybe I’ll take on Photoshop and all that. I might be posting my amateur drawings because I would like to know your opinions 🙂

What I’ll draw? Faces, faces and again faces!!! Human features are more interesting to paint 🙂 It’s also due to my makeup addiction 😛 Imagine, giving LIFE to an empty page…

Just like we can all add colours to our lives when these are the darkest…

Take Care!!

Artistically Yours,

An Evil Nymph.

My Dream Tattoo

Requested by my fellow readers, I’m going to show you my “dream” tattoo, just that it’s not really a dream, but reality: i.e. I’m REALLY going to get my right shoulder (classic place uh? but perfect one for the 1st time :)) tattoed!

Why get a tattoo?

Because of Dan Brown! Yep, that’s his fault 🙂 He’s published The Last Symbol – his latest book – and in it the villain is a lover of tattoos and Dan Brown therefore describes tattooing as a genuine wonderful awesome art… as in fact it IS art! Not only something to show off or to scare or to intimidate (these 3 reasons are very bad ones – if these are the goals you want to reach in getting a tattoo… well you don’t deserve one).

So here’s my tattoo design:

celtic wicca design tattoo

I was inspired by Celtic patterns (google ’em for more info ^^) as I’m very interested in the old religion (now called Wiccan religion), legends and myths… especially surrounding Ireland and Britain, i.e. like Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table 😀 Love to discover and read all of these.

The star is mainly called a pentacle – a very important symbol (for the good) in the old religion.

I hope the photos aren’t too dark and that my drawing (trials to imitate) is not that bad… Of course the tattoo designer will make it more perfect 😉
