Can You Really Be Happy?

By the title, I mean, can you be happy for 100 days in a row?? 🙂 Yes, most of you already know what I’m going to talk about in this post and what has been going on in my life recently while I was away from the blogging world (my most sincere apologies for that!!!), which is the #100happydays challenge!

The challenge is to post a picture everyday for 100 consecutive days online on any social media platform of my choice (I chose Instagram!) showing the little things that makes me happy. The main goal is to make people realise that happiness is not a destination, but a lifestyle 🙂

Thus, I decide to share my first 14 days in the challenge here:

Weekly Photo Challenge | Perspective

For this week’s challenge, which is ‘perspective‘, I was inspired by you, yes you, people who read my blog, and especially those who read about my post on Candid Street Photography, and that’s because you’ve told me how you liked that first photo with the colouful umbrellas…

And here are photos of the same place, with the same umbrellas, but taken in different perspectives.

look up

Looking up.

look down

And looking down to them.

So what do you think of this week’s theme, perspective? Feel free to show me your own interpretation!

My First Time! | Candid Street Photography

Yesterday I decided to give candid street photography a go. I was going to be in the capital city anyway, so I thought, why not? My adventurous mind was getting all thrilled at the thought that I was indeed going to be alone, since the friend I’d asked to come with me wasn’t free, but reason warned me not to be too crazy so I opted for a safe area – a tourist one!

Here’s the main street of Le Caudan Waterfront, where I chose to do candid street photography for the first time, all by myself:

Yes I know. Colourful umbrellas ♥

So I put on my hat, wore Candy (my camera) around my neck and pretended to be a tourist! I even spoke English (we usually speak French), stared around as if I’ve never been there (although I’ve been a thousand times since I was born), smiled… and followed the crowd, feigning to take shots of the place when in fact I was shooting… the people themselves.

Weekly Photo Challenge | Abandoned

abandoned plant

This was actually a bean plant which I had planted and taken care of a few years ago but then mosquito-transmitted diseases became common in my country and for safety reasons I was recommended to stop dealing with plants.

I thus abandoned my bean plant and here it is, definitely useful in my photographic amateur journey! 😉 Which I’m recording on Flickr if you want to check it out!

Have a great week!

It’s Never Too Late… For A Selfie!

It’s never too late for a new blog post either!

For those of you who love to participate in the Weekly Photo Challenge as much as I do you may notice how the title relates to the fact that I haven’t been blogging for two weeks but I really want to remedy to that by still giving a shot at one of the challenges I missed which was ‘Selfie’.

1st take:

You can actually find this photo on my Instagram. Follow me @dkwaye !

How To: Light Painting Photography!!!

For Chinese New Year, I did an interesting experiment with my Nikon Coolpix p520, that of the famous light painting! Like this:

First, I’d like to share the video tutorial that led me to discover this amazing art:

Watch it if you want to know how to do it, because here I’m mainly going to show how it’s not necessary to have all these high tech equipments to achieve the same results.

Basically, here’s what you need to do light painting:

– Torches (any colour! or many colours! I actually used my phone’s flashlight, which was downloaded on Play Store :P)
– Any camera that can be manually set to low exposure (low shutter speed)
– Something stable to put your camera on, like a tripod.
– Preferably a remote control, like in the video above, so as to again minimize shakiness. Because pressing the shutter button directly can make the camera shaky, I guess.
– And most importantly: friends!!! Yeps, and have fun! I had my sister and cousins with me 🙂

Weekly Photo Challenge | Beginning

For a beginning, there has to be an ending.

Death of something. Here’s this drying rose.

Hello 2014!

This new year is a chance to start over.

A new routine!

Write at least 1,000 words per day.

Read everyday so as to complete the Goodreads Reading Challenge (50).

Wish me luck 😉

Feel free to add me as a friend on Goodreads!

Also, I opened a new Instagram account, so you can now find my photos, such as the rose I used for this week’s challenge, @dkwaye !

I’m sorry that my first post of 2014 is a bit late, but I was caught up in my new routine, as well as planning for my future (university and stuff) 😛

Anyway, have a great week!

Stay positive!

Christmas Presents In Advance | Edition 2013

I remembered I made a similar post back in 2011 when I received my first and only Android phone, the Samsung Galaxy SII, in addition to a wonderful book of course.

Well this year, I also decided to get myself something tech-y as well as books and since I got my gifts way before Christmas (i.e. for more than a week)… today’s post is born!

But first, for the sake of the Christmas and holiday spirit, I’d like to share with you an event a group of YouTubers, including me, are doing to help other YouTubers, as during the holiday season we want to Do Good 🙂

Here it is:

Hope you have some spare time to watch it! If not, without further ado, here are my 2013 Christmas presents!
