I Will Miss Campus Life

Last weekend, I met up with my university friends, both on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday our meeting point was at the campus itself. And after spending such enjoyable days with them, I realised that I will miss this after I graduate.

I will miss my student life on campus. I will miss the late nights I spend with my friends, living on the cheap. I will miss the feeling of walking to school. I will miss all of it.

I have only one semester left. I’m graduating in July this year… and I might not be turning back. Which means that I might not pursue a Honours year/4th year, because I might prefer to work first and then do a Masters later on, probably somewhere else, somewhere new. After this, I am, most likely, moving on.

Nevertheless, with a heavy heart.

One Year in Malaysia

It was this Friday July 17th that marked my one-year anniversary with Malaysia. Yes, I have been living in Malaysia, as an undergraduate student, for more than a year now. Not once did I go back to my home country, Mauritius.

How does it feel?

Someone told me that I would change after having stayed abroad for so long. Someone else added that while I would change, the people back in my country, my family, would not, which will give off a weird feeling if I go back one day. Today, I can say I completely agree. I’ve changed, no, I’ve grown.

Not literally obviously.

The End

This post comes a little late, but it was only after my last exams on the 24th June that it really hit me; that is, my first year in university.

The amazing but terrible thing about doing a Bachelor of Arts is that it is so flexible that almost no one undertakes the same unit sequence. In my case, no one else is majoring in psychology and in writing simultaneously.

First year was the year of getting familiar with the field of Arts therefore I studied a little bit of everything, from cold war politics to Game of Thrones analysis. I also met a lot of people but eventually only a few became what one could call my School of Arts gang. We met one another on the very first day of school and until the last day, on the 24th, when we had our last first year dinner…

Discovering Japanese Snacks! (Part 2)

I’m on my last week of exams and I’m able to squeeze in some time to finally announce that I ended up eating all of my Japanese snacks! Therefore, here’s PART 2 of ‘Discovering Japanese snacks!’, which involved buying lots of Japanese sweets and try them out, because eating has become one of my dominant hobbies here in Malaysia. 😉

If you haven’t read Part 1 and want to go through it before scrolling through this post, click HERE to have a look!

Here we go for my mini reviews of the last 4 Japanese snacks:

1. Lotte Koalas March Cookies

Classic Japanese’s definition of cookies, filled with mouth-melting chocolate. This definitely reminded me of my childhood favourite: Hello Panda! I love how the cookie part was crunchy and actually quite easy to break due to its surprising thinness, but without being too soft. It was cooked just right. The chocolate was as enjoyable as one would on biting on any Hello Panda cookie.

Discovering Japanese Snacks! (Part 1)

It might be because the NBC series Hannibal has started, that makes me want to indulge in exclusive fancy/expensive foods (last year was berries). (Because Japanese foods are pricey in Malaysia T.T except the Daiso quality ones haha).

It might also be because I want to explore another dominant aspect of Japanese culture, knowing that I’m still especially completely in love with Japanese food, and the fact that the more I dived into the semester, the less time and thought I put into cooking, so I only ended up repeating the same easy recipes I had learnt (busy and heavy university life, guys).

Anyway, on one evening, about one hour before the shops would close, I had a crazy Japanese snacks shopping spree!

(If you are on a budget, like me actually oops, don’t do this at home, unless you’re in Japan, I guess? Or unless you don’t mind spending your savings on food.)

Oh I bought all of this just in time for the exams period 🙂

The stores I went to were the famously Japanese shop, Shojikiya, and the typical AEON supermarket.

By the time this post is going to be published, I would have tried all of them and therefore, now, I am going to review every one of them down below!

My Last Week As A First Year Student

Monday

Round of applause in the auditorium as the last minute of Film Studies class ticked off. It was also the end of our final class test, and since we don’t have any exams for this unit, it was definitely the last glimpse I would ever have of Film Studies.

It took me back to last semester’s TV studies, which is the matching unit for Film, except that this time it was definitely over. Lectures that were basically movie screening times are over. No more watching movies as homework, for assignment research, or for revision.

First year is over. The scoring and easy parts of university work are done.

We also clapped after our last World Politics lecture. Short and sweet class. That’s how my friends and I ended up in the library and I decided that I wanted mugshots hehe.

Mondays have always been my favourite days. Not only because of the idea of starting the week with a movie in the Film lecture, but also because it is the only day when I meet all my friends. Not only in class, but also in our Monash Performing Arts Club weekly meetings 🙂 This semester, as a committee member, I feel even more grateful.

The Busy Life of An Evil Nymph

Hey guys!

I know, don’t throw tomatoes at me. I haven’t been blogging at all since this uni semester started. Ironically, today is the last day of my one-week mid-sem break and it is only today that I finally decided to write here again! Don’t worry I am not quitting blogging; it’s just that my schedule has become very… unstable.

I was going through my old notes last night and I saw this excerpt from one of my Instagram #100happydays challenge image caption that I had written offline because Instagram had shut down at that time:

Have some of us become so pathetic that they can’t live without social media? Are we that desperately dependent upon sharing on the net? Is this what’s truly life?

I suddenly am even more impatient to start university. Or else people will have to literally rip my face off the screen.

This was written about one year ago. Now here am I, neglecting all my online social networks, except for Instagram I’d say but Instagram has become more like a supplement to life, not a dominant platform, while I’m completely immersed in a busy real kind of a life.

Half a semester has passed already and I feel that I’ve done so much! That’s because I’m…

1. In the Performing Arts Club!

Especially as a committee member, I’ve a lot to do and tons to enjoy 🙂

General meeting on Mondays, committee meetings on Tuesday, after meeting dinners and paperwork: yes very busy, but at least in something I love!

It’s Never Too Late… For A Selfie!

It’s never too late for a new blog post either!

For those of you who love to participate in the Weekly Photo Challenge as much as I do you may notice how the title relates to the fact that I haven’t been blogging for two weeks but I really want to remedy to that by still giving a shot at one of the challenges I missed which was ‘Selfie’.

1st take:

You can actually find this photo on my Instagram. Follow me @dkwaye !

Weekly Photo Challenge: Focus

Indeed, it’s been a while since I did a WPC!

Here’s my interpretation of this week’s theme, focus, where I focused my SII camera on this watch-necklace, although there’s my painting at the back, which I’m almost done with by the way 🙂

time focus

Time is ticking away.

And there is school.

And there is art.

But Time is more powerful. It is above them all.

While we can catch up on work, we cannot catch Time.

No, we cannot catch God.

So what’s your interpretation of ‘focus’? Feel free to share it in the comments below!

An Evil Nymph.

I’m Drawing Gary C!

School has started again this Monday and my art exposition is coming soon! Not mentioning the fact that I got to sit for my A-levels exams in October/November, so I get huge revision work to do!

That’s why I’m less and less online.

Yeah, this year is the most most busy year of all! And kind of stressful too at times.

Just so you know I’m still alive, but I can’t predict when I’m going to blog, so just be prepared to be surprised from time to time… at unexpected times!

Anyway, here’s my latest drawing:

This drawing’s going to be featured in the intro of one of Gary C’s videos, since he’s a YouTuber 🙂 I can’t wait to see that! So excited!

Anyway, hope you’re having a nice week!

Until next time,

An Evil Nymph.

Life, I’m Scared.

My first ‘serious’ vlog:

I hope it doesn’t make you cry, although if you did cry it means I did a great job 🙂

Anyway, this is basically some reflections on my life situation, where I’ve recently realised that I wanted to pursue art as a career while writing will remain my favourite hobby. And it’s also about my struggle to be accepted as an art student, since many do not agree with my decision, many don’t believe in me, many think that I’ll just end up in the streets instead of having a stable job.

But I don’t believe that. I believe in me. I know I can do this.

I know it’s so sudden and since I didn’t do Art & Design at school I have to do it privately and sit for its A-level next year, thus I’ll still be studying next year instead of going to university.

It’s a risk, I know, but I’m ready to take it. It’s all about follow my dreams and listening to my heart because only my heart knows what makes me happy.

And art does.

That’s the advice I want to give you: it’s okay to be scared, but you should go forward along your heart’s desires anyway.

An Evil Nymph.

The Golden Hour + My Holiday Plans!

I’m officially getting back to the Weekly Photo Challenge! And this week’s theme is The Golden Hour

the golden hour sunrise

I took this photo from my room and it’s sunrise on a Saturday morning when I usually do my weekly morning jogging. It’s not a much recent photo but I think I never shared it with you right? Although I did on instagram.

The ‘I’M GUILTY’ Episode!

One more week and my exams will finally be over. ONE WEEK! Well, they end on Thursday. Anyway, I wasn’t supposed to do anything like blogging or YouTubing… but I couldn’t help it. I was much active on Twitter especially.

And I bought art stuff!

Yes, I’m definitely guilty!

Then, yesterday I did the thing that a student in exams period should put last in their to-do list and that is… I did a video. Well I filmed one with the help of my little sister, and now it’s up on YouTube!

I guess it would be inhuman to be able to remain buried in school books 24/24.

So here’s the video:
