Why I Love Anime

by evilnymphstuff

I’ve never been a big fan of anime series and I can count on my fingers how many of them I’ve watched in my whole life so far. (Haha, being an Asian has led me not to be interested in Asian stuff.)

However, I have to say, I really really admire anime.

On the rare occasions that I do watch one, I go completely crazy over it.

yoshino And the reason this happens is that anime producers/writers/whatever are simply the greatest storytellers that ever existed.

Indeed, this is a writing-related post (hihi what could you expect from me) and the answer to the ‘why I love Anime’ is simply because of its storytelling.

4 Reasons Why Contemporary Feminists Have To Watch ‘Once Upon A Time’

by evilnymphstuff

The fourth season of ABC’s television series, ‘Once Upon A Time’, is upon us. If you love modern adaptations of classic fairy tales, this is the cherry on the top of the cake. As you run through each episode, try to identify all of the children’s stories the producers integrated throughout the storyline: it makes a viewer’s experience more interesting. What is also appealing in the series is the contemporary, but somehow still ideal, approach towards gender and socio-cultural issues.

  1. Equal rights in a romantic relationship

Ever dreamt of living in a world where women are the ones to ask men for a date without the fear of being considered as ‘weird’ or of humiliating the male ego? Well, Emma Swan makes the first move to make this a reality by – finally – asking Killian (a.k.a. Captain Hook) out officially in the fourth season. An equal compromise was maintained when the latter offered to choose the restaurant. Moreover, they are business associates, looking after each other’s backs. Besides, the fact that Emma is the town sheriff, therefore the one with higher social power, does not seem to disturb the Captain, or anyone else in Storybrooke for that matter, which leads us to the next point…

5 Reasons Why I Prefer Evil Characters

by evilnymphstuff

therese desqueyroux françois mauriacLes « coeurs sur la main » n’ont pas d’histoire ; mais je connais celle des coeurs enfouis et tout mêlés à un corps de boue.

This French quote from François Mauriac very much describes my main motivation for siding with evil characters in my stories. I can’t really translate it though, because in English it won’t have that same impact it had on me, you see… The French language has a particular (charming and poetic) style that I just can’t reproduce in English. But basically, Mauriac tells us that he prefers to write on those who are ‘evil’ and unconventional instead of those who are good and virtuous.

I can totally understand why. (And I totally understand Mauriac thus that’s why I’m in love with his book, Thérèse Desqueyroux).

I’m a bit late I know, I’m sorry. Anyway, here’s finally this week’s Picture it & Write and the continued ‘Unpredicted’ series!

The loud music beat the walls of the hall and echoed through my ears unintelligibly while the multicoloured lights wobbled around. The scent of food and alcohol swarmed over the place, mingled with sweat. The bodies swayed and jumped all over the dancefloor. There were shouts and sing-along’s.

But I took no notice. None of them caught my attention. I was frozen in the middle of all this strange chaotic party, which had been organised by the drama club in honour of the new semester. I forgot all about my little black sleeveless dress which stuck uncomfortably to my skin and the glass of champagne my hand was holding for hours. Nothing mattered.

TV Series Just Eat Me Alive

by evilnymphstuff

Something you should know about me: I can get easily emotionally attached to well-written books and good-plotted movies. I’m also a bit stoical because I almost never cry or whatever… even if sometimes I want to as sometimes it can be good for me.

If you’ve been following me on Twitter you’ve seen that my latest tweets talk about the fact that I’ve finished to watch the whole Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (TSCC) series yesterday.

I yet have to watch the movies of The Terminator in 1984 onwards :D (so excited for that!)

Back to TSCC: This is a series that really touched me and that I fully watched. I usually like very few tv series because the more I grow up the more I expect specific things from movies or books or series… if you get what I mean.
