5 Natural Remedies to Treat Acne [Guest Post]

Acne is something no one wants to deal with, but almost all of us have to face it at some point. Acne can mar your natural beauty, making you feel self-conscious. It can strip you of your confidence and make it hard for you to get out and enjoy being with friends or going places. It can also be quite painful.

You may scrub and scrub your face with soaps, toners and other products that promise to clear your acne, all with no success. Or you may not want to use such harsh chemicals on your face and are looking for natural remedies instead. Here are 5 natural (and effective) remedies that you can use to treat your acne and start taking back your confidence:

Honey

You wouldn’t think that slathering a thick, sticky goo over your face would help to clear up your acne — you’d think it would just clog your pores and make the problem even worse. However, honey has natural antibacterial properties, which will help to disinfect your face and heal blemishes. It will also leave your skin soft and moisturized, which can help balance oil production that might be increased because of dry and irritated skin. Just apply it as a mask and rinse clean.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is another great cure that has natural anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, both of which can help to reduce acne flare-ups and treat the ones that are already there. Coconut oil has many healing properties, so it can also help to minimize the scarring and other complications from your acne. Like honey, you can just apply it directly to your skin like a moisturizer. No need to even wash it away.

Turmeric

You can make a paste of turmeric powder with a little bit of water and apply it to you face like a mask. The turmeric will help stop excess oil production. Like honey and coconut oil, it is also anti-bacterial, so it can help you treat the root cause of your acne. You can also mix turmeric with honey or coconut oil for a mask with double action.

Lemon Slices

You can gently massage your face with lemon slices to help lighten the dark scarring left behind by acne and to tighten your pores to prevent the formation of new acne. Be careful though: If you have sensitive skin, using lemon could make the problem worse as it could dry out and irritate your skin, sending oil production into overdrive and causing more flare-ups. Use it on a small portion of your skin to test its effectiveness before moving onto your whole face.

Balanced Hormones

Hormonal issues are often at the root of recurring acne problems. To treat your acne holistically, you have to focus on treating your hormones. You can do this by eating a balanced diet that includes plenty of fresh fruits and veggies, whole grains, healthy fats and proteins. Avoid processed foods, lots of caffeine and sugar. Drink plenty of water, get a lot of sleep and reduce stress wherever you can. You’ll feel better and you’ll cure your acne naturally.

  1. I’m going to try some of these. I’m 34 years old and a mom. I didn’t have problems with acne until now. I’m willing to try anything to make it go away lol!

  2. This is an awesome post with lots of great advice. I had no idea about a lot of this stuff. I still get some acne flare ups from time to time, maybe I’ll try these out next time 🙂

    Thanks for sharing!

  3. Understanding how to cure acne without expensive medications or chemical cures can be challenging without knowing the common causes of the condition. Knowing how acne develops will make it easier to examine current routines and regimens and see where they are lacking, or what actions may be exacerbating the problem.

  4. I am 42 years old and have always had acne issues. I had a hysterectomy and started taking estrogen which made my face break out even worse. I researched products and came across the Dermalmd acne serum. It did wonder the 1st night. I went to work the next day and told my coworkers all about it.
